The fundraiser has already pulled in a staggering £54,000, which is surely more money than many of us have seen in our lifetimes. But this isn’t just a nice gesture - this is a giant neon sign saying “Meghan, you’re a terrible daughter.”
Lady C is not mincing words either, directly calling Meghan “cruel” for freezing out her father. Throw in some scathing commentary from royal correspondent Jennie Bond as well, and it’s clear Meghan is facing maximum shade from all corners of the royal rumor mill. But is it deserved? First of all, Meghan’s family drama has reached a level of chaos that would make even the plotlines of Game of Thrones seem tame. She’s got a sister suing her in court, a brother constantly granting tell-all interviews, and a father who can’t seem to stay out of the tabloids. Throw in all the complicated feelings that come with fame and wealth, and it’s no wonder Meghan is keeping her relatives at arm’s length. She preaches constantly about compassion, healing, and bringing people together, yet seems unable or unwilling to extend that same grace to her own blood relatives. Then there’s Prince Harry, who claims Meghan is “just like” his late mother Princess Diana in her warmth and empathy - a notion that becomes harder to swallow by the day as Meghan’s cold shoulder towards her father drags on. It also can’t look good to the rest of the royals, with King Charles surely longing to develop a relationship with his grandchildren without all the drama and restrictions.
The real tragedy in all this, though, is how it is impacting Thomas Markle himself. The man is now entering his 80s, has never met his grandchildren, and apparently the last ten years of his life have been overshadowed by this constant back-and-forth with his daughter. To have one’s 80th birthday “celebrated” via a charity effort meant to spite and humiliate must be incredibly hard to stomach. Regardless of past transgressions, the dude is still Meghan’s father and deserves at least a modicum of respect in his twilight years. Surely there could be a middle ground found where both patch things up enough for him to properly meet his son-in-law and great-grandchildren.

So in the end, who is to blame here? Both sides likely share responsibility for letting things spiral so out of control. But compassion and forgiveness are supposedly Meghan’s whole brand these days. If she wants the world to buy her messages of positivity and healing, she must practice what she preaches and extend the olive branch to her Dad. The constant victim narrative starts to ring hollow when her own inaction is the root cause of so much pain. Family is complicated, yes, but this degree of ongoing estrangement and public theatre is simply unhealthy for all involved.
