The Prince and Princess of Wales are passionate sports fans and have congratulated Team GB athletes who have won gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. While Prince William and Kate are not at the Games in person, they took to social media to share their joy and pride in Britain's success.

On Monday, the couple wrote on their official Twitter account "Huge congratulations to the Equestrian Eventing Team and Tom Pidcock on winning Team GB's first gold medals of Paris 2024. Here's to more success ahead!" Rose Atkin, Laura Collett and Tom McKinley landed Great Britain's first gold medal in the Eventing Team final just hours before Tom Pidcock secured himself first place in the men's cross country mountain biking event.

The Princess Royal, Anne, a former Olympic equestrian herself at the 1972 Munich Games at age 21, presented the gold medals to the Eventing team at the Château de Versailles during Sunday's medal ceremony. Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Tindall, won a silver medal as part of Team GB's Eventing team at the London 2012 Olympics. Continuing her support for British athletes, the King's sister also appeared at the men's 100 meters breaststroke final on Sunday night where she handed the silver medal to Britain's Adam Peaty.

Several other British athletes have also achieved success on the track and in the pool. Tom Dean and Noah Williams sealed silver in the thrilling men's synchronized 10 meters platform diving event. Cyclist Anna Henderson claimed silver in the women's individual time trial, while divers Yasmin Harper and Scarlett M Jensen took bronze. Kimberley Woods earned bronze in the canoe slalom competition and equestrian Laura Collett added to Britain's haul with bronze of her own in eventing.

The support of the Prince and Princess of Wales will no doubt have provided a morale boost for Team GB's athletes in Paris. As President and Patron of the British Olympic Association, the couple have a keen interest in and passion for sports. When at home in the UK, they are frequently spotted attending major sporting events and competitions to cheer on British athletes. Both William and Kate are also involved with several charities that use sport to support young people's mental and physical well-being.

While juggling their royal responsibilities, the Prince and Princess of Wales are currently enjoying the summer break with their three young children. Prince George, aged 8, Princess Charlotte, 7 and Prince Louis, 4, will be nearing the end of their school holidays. It has been a busy period for the Cambridges with a variety of public engagements over the summer months.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer earlier this year, the Princess of Wales has tried to maintain as full a public schedule as possible when feeling well enough. She joined other members of the Royal Family for the traditional Trooping the Colour parade in June to celebrate the Queen's official birthday. Kate also made appearances at both Wimbledon finals, presenting the trophies on Centre Court and cheering on British success.

Meanwhile, Prince William was last seen supporting England football fans in Berlin on July 14th. He attended the UEFA Euro 2024 final alongside Prince George at the Olympiastadion stadium. However, there was heartbreak for both the royal father and son, along with the whole nation, as England lost 2-1 to Spain in a tight contest. Football clearly remains a great passion that William enjoys sharing with his eldest child George, as they bond over their support for the national team.

The Paris Olympics continue this week, with the Prince and Princess of Wales sure to be following Team GB's further performances from afar. As the Summer Games draw to a close, they will want to congratulate any athletes who return home with medals. Though not present in the French capital themselves due to other commitments, William and Kate's encouragement and celebratory social media messages demonstrate their ongoing commitment to championing British sporting excellence on the international stage.
