The Duchess of Sussex surprised royal fans this week when they noticed the duchess she had a new signet ring that appeared to be engraved with the royal cypher she shared with her husband during their days as senior working royals - roles they left behind in 2020.

The monogram, which was first revealed when the couple married in 2018, is made up of the letters 'H' and 'M' in cursive writing, topped with a coronet with two cross pattées, four fleurs-de-lys and two strawberry leaves, according to The Mirror.

While the ring looks discreet on the duchess' pinky finger, royal expert and biographer Ingrid Seward believes it is sending a subtle statement to the Royal Family.

She told the Mirror: "I don't think it has any particular significance apart from the snob value of reminding people that she has a royal cypher. I think Meghan wants to be accepted by the Firm for the sake of the children. The Royal Family must know she will never go away so the less fuss they make about what she does the less attention is focussed on her."
