Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has not visited the UK in over two years, and one royal expert has explained why. In his view, it is not likely that she will return any time soon
However, the expert pointed out that Harry manages to visit the UK very discreetly these days, going "unnoticed" for the most part when he is back on this side of the Atlantic since the couple made the choice to set their lives up in California
Harry is currently embroiled in an ongoing legal battle with the Home Office over the removal of his automatic police security - something he had from birth until he decided to no longer be an official representative of the crown as a working, taxpayer-funded, royal.

He has claimed that without police security, he cannot safely bring Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet back to the UK, because the private security he can hire himself doesn't have the proper jurisdiction or intelligence to keep the Sussex family safe.
The Duke lost the initial rounds of this legal battle, with the High Court finding the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) - the committee which decides who gets protection from the police - acted lawfully by removing his police security. But he won the right to appeal and the case is due to continue in April.

The King is reported to find Harry's decision to continue legal action against the government "embarrassing" and "infuriating". Royal expert Richard Palmer says that those close to his youngest son have claimed the King could easily overturn the decision and reinstate the Sussexes' security.
The Times has reported that the legal action has become a "sticking point" between father and son, with the King allegedly feeling he cannot speak to Harry while the dispute between the Duke of Sussex and His Majesty's government is ongoing.

In his memoir Spare, Harry laid bare his fears over the threats against his family, pointing out that his 2018 wedding to Meghan saw police snipers take to nearby rooftops after an "unprecedented" number of threats against them. He claimed that at the time of the couple's royal exit when their security was stripped, "the threat level for us...was still higher than that of nearly every other royal, equal to that assigned to the Queen."
