Prince Harry kicked off another segment of his promotional tour for his memoir "Spare" by playfully poking fun at royal traditions alongside Hollywood actor Tom Hanks during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex showcased some royal grandeur in a pre-recorded skit where he was welcomed at the CBS studio by two trumpet players dressed in elaborate uniforms.

In the clip, Harry walks down a red carpet as the trumpeters begin their fanfare. Humorously, Harry interrupts to tell them "woah woah woah, stop - this isn't necessary but I appreciate it." Colbert replies playfully "what are you talking about, this isn't for you" before announcing Hanks's arrival. As the iconic actor Tom Hanks, 66, enters the stage, he jokingly asks "I'm back, where's my fanfare?" while Harry showers him with rose petals.

The trumpeters in the sketch wore uniforms reminiscent of the state trumpeters of the Household Cavalry, known for performing at major royal events. However, instead of royal insignia, their jackets featured the letters "L" and "S," a reference to The Late Show. Teaser clips shared on CBS's Twitter have already highlighted several memorable moments from Harry's interview, including his passionate denial of claims that he bragged about killing 25 Taliban fighters. He expressed his frustration over critics distorting his words and putting his family at risk.

Harry also revealed to Colbert that he watches the controversial Netflix show "The Crown," admitting to having seen the more recent episodes that dramatize his mother Princess Diana's struggles with bulimia and his parents' tumultuous divorce. In another promotional segment, Colbert humorously compared Harry to Harry Potter, joking that his memoir could be available as a commemorative plate. When a clip aired showing Harry discussing the pain of being avoided by his brother William at Eton, Colbert quipped "That's heartbreaking to be rejected by your older brother at school, even after the magic had sorted them into the same house. What do you think - Hufflepuff?"

Colbert continued in jest about Harry's book being available in hardback, audiobook, and commemorative plate, poking fun at the royal tradition of celebrating events with limited-edition tableware. Adding to the humor, Colbert joked "Stock up on corgis and grab a priceless cultural treasure from one of your colonies because The Late Show is going in!" Harry's memoir also includes humorous anecdotes about his family, such as a Christmas ornament resembling the queen that Meghan gifted him. He noted it was a perfect likeness but ended up smashed when their toddler Archie accidentally knocked over the tree.

After a series of serious interviews that some critics felt didn't adequately address contradictions in his book, Harry chose The Late Show for a more light-hearted promotion of "Spare." The pre-recorded skit allowed Harry to showcase some royal flair and tradition through the elaborately costumed trumpet players while also poking fun at it. Alongside comedian Colbert and actor Hanks, Harry was able to promote his memoir in a more enjoyable way through humor, focusing on some of the lighter stories rather than confronting more controversial claims directly. The lighter tone aimed to attract casual viewers and offset criticisms of previous promotion events.
