Recently royal watchers were treated to an unprecedented look into the private lives of Catherine Princess of Wales and her family including Prince William and their three children. The image, which was filmed by William at their country retreat at Anmer Hall, shows Catherine in a serene moment gently holding a butterfly while wearing a stunning Veronica Beard dress. However, like most kids their age, their favorite meals are far more modest and simple - from home-cooked pizza to mac and cheese.
George, Charlotte, and Louis like to tuck into everyday dinners after busy classes at their school in Berkshire. George particularly likes pasta, while Charlotte has revealed a penchant for curry. Louis, the youngest, enjoys his vegetables, their parents have revealed in interviews over the years. Since starting their family with George's arrival in July 2013, Catherine and William have always been candid about their children, sharing sweet remarks and talks with the press and key figures at engagements.

In February 2019, for instance, the princess visited a school in Enfield, North London. She told staff there that her children love cooking and how they cook for her. "They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. They make salads and stuff." It's George who especially enjoys pasta and pizza, she said. Visiting St. Luke's Community Center, Catherine also revealed how George and his sister like making pizza, adding "they love it cuz they get their hands messy."
Although Charlotte is said to like Italian food just like her brother, her mother revealed her daughter also enjoys curry. Before their tour of Pakistan in 2019, Catherine chatted about how she loves to cook curry at home, explaining that she tones down the spice for their children, Prince George and Prince Louis. She added that Charlotte is "pretty good with heat." The princess also said that year that Charlotte enjoys olives as a snack while Louis likes pizza and curry too.

The youngest of the siblings is also keen on beetroot and other vegetables, as his mother revealed on a Mary Berry TV show. "We've got carrots, beans, beetroot - a massive favorite. Louis absolutely loves beetroot," she said. Their family's former chef, Darren McGrady - who cooked for Diana, William and Harry for 15 years - has since shared an incredible insight into the young royals' palettes. "They are surprisingly ordinary," he said.
Catherine follows in Princess Diana's footsteps of being much more hands-on as a mother than royals traditionally have in the past. Not only does she do daily activities like school drop-off herself, but she's all about showing her children affection. "Hugs are very important. That's what I tell my children," she said during a trip to a sporting center. Regarding the stressors of parenting, she's said on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast that it's the small things that make it worth it. "That's what I want them to remember - these moments with me as a mother, but also the family going to the beach, getting soaking wet, filling our boots full of water. Those are what I really want them to remember, not a stressful household where you're trying to do everything and not succeeding at anything."

As a parent, she wants to make sure her children's mental health is a priority as well. "William and I would not hesitate to seek help for our children if they needed it," she said. "We hope to encourage George and Charlotte to speak about their feelings and to get them tools and sensitivity to be supportive peers for their friends as they get older." Catherine recognizes that a lot of parenthood is "faking it until you make it." Even the Princess of Wales does that. "There's no rule book, no right or wrong. So you just have to make it up and do the very best you can for your family," she acknowledged. It's so important, she believes, to keep that in mind.

The glimpses into family life that Catherine and William have periodically shared indicate they want their children to have as normal an upbringing as possible, despite their royal status. Home-cooked meals, affection, and a focus on mental well-being are some of the priorities they strive for. While George, Charlotte and Louis have a unique lifestyle in many ways, it's heartening to see their parents emphasize the importance of everyday moments and a caring environment as they raise the future King and his siblings.
