Recent reports claiming that Meghan Markle wants to meet with King Charles to discuss the distribution of wealth from the Duchy of Cornwall have once again brought attention to the ongoing rumors surrounding the financial situations of Princes William and Harry. Whispers of Meghan and Harry's alleged ambitions to receive a portion of the Duchy's income first arose following Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September, fueling speculation about tensions between the brothers.

According to commentator Neil Sean, Meghan is said to be particularly concerned about the financial disparity between her husband Prince Harry and his brother Prince William. As Sean notes, money has long been at the root of conflict, even within royal families where vast wealth is expected. However, the actual financial positions of high-profile figures like Meghan and Harry are often more complicated than they appear from the outside.

While the public may see Harry and Meghan as incredibly affluent, Sean argues this is not necessarily the case. Prince Harry is expected to receive a lump sum inheritance when he turns 40 next month, but these funds could be quickly depleted by expenses such as mortgages, security costs, and the couple's everyday living costs. Sean also points out Harry has never been responsible for finances, a task that reportedly falls to Meghan. This means the true state of their wealth remains uncertain.

The crux of the issue, according to Sean, lies in the substantial inheritance recently received by Prince William from the Duchy of Cornwall. As the eldest son, the multi-billion pound estate was passed down to William from his father King Charles upon the death of Queen Elizabeth. This inheritance has made William and his wife Kate financially independent, allowing them to be comfortable without reliance on state funding.

However, Meghan reportedly believes this significant wealth should be shared equally between the two brothers, despite the longstanding tradition of the Duchy belonging solely to the Prince of Wales. According to a well-placed source, Meghan is unhappy with the current arrangement and wants to directly address the matter with King Charles. She feels both sons should be treated equally, especially in terms of financial inheritance.

While royal protocol dictates that the Duchy goes to the Prince of Wales, Meghan's dissatisfaction has led her to push for a meeting. Her request comes at a time when William has faced scrutiny over the taxes he will pay on his inheritance. The sizable windfall from the Duchy has undoubtedly made the new Prince and Princess of Wales very wealthy. However, it has also drawn attention to the stark contrast between their situation and that of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan's motivation for seeking an audience with King Charles is reportedly her belief that the brothers should support each other financially. However, any changes to the Duchy's distribution would require approval from the King, who is said to be satisfied with current arrangements involving his private estates and investments. As the reigning monarch, Charles may be reluctant to alter long-held tradition given the complex legal implications.

In the meantime, Harry and Meghan will likely continue facing financial challenges as they have in the past, despite occasional luxuries. While an inheritance will provide some relief, the lump sum is unlikely to resolve the questions surrounding their wealth in the long run. Only time will tell if Meghan gets her wished-for meeting with King Charles, and if any agreement could be reached to restructure how royal finances are divided between the brothers moving forward. For now, murmurs of dissatisfaction over money issues persist on both sides of the reported family rift.
