The queen made a surprise visit to Wimbledon this week, continuing the royal family's presence at the famous tennis tournament. Queen Camilla was spotted at the All England Club on Day 10 of the competition, just one day after Princess Beatrice attended alongside her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Camilla's appearance seemed to end the brief royal hiatus from Wimbledon this year. She was last seen in public wearing the cream Anna Valentine dress adorned with giraffes during a state visit to Kenya in 2021. At Wimbledon, the queen met with ball boys and girls, speaking with Yug from Harris Academy Wimbledon and Natalia from Burntwood School.

The queen also chatted with British tennis stars like Jamie Delgado and Laura Robson, as well as All England Club Head Gardener Martin Faler. Camilla also engaged with Mexican tennis player Santiago Gonzalez’s daughter Camila, who appeared pleased to interact with the royal. Steven Loo, CEO of Jigsaw, was spotted talking to the queen before she headed to the royal box for the quarterfinal matches.

Zara and Mike Tindall likewise attended Wimbledon, accompanied by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's parents Carol and Michael Middleton. This continues the royal presence at the tournament begun by Beatrice's visit the previous day with her husband Edo. There has been little royal attendance so far this summer, so Beatrice and now the queen have ended that hiatus.

Speculation is rising over whether Kate will present the winners’ trophies this weekend, though Kensington Palace has provided no confirmation. The Princess of Wales has only made one public appearance for Trooping the Colour so far in 2022 as she continues cancer treatment. Officials say a decision on her attendance will be made Saturday morning.

During her visit, the queen revealed her fondness for weather apps to children's author Francesca Simon. They bonded over checking the weather amid downpours that moved a literary event indoors at Clarence House. Simon learned the monarch faces teasing for obsessively monitoring weather worldwide. The queen said “everybody teases her” for the habit, though Simon shares her interest in global forecasts.

This event celebrated the National Literacy Trust’s 30th anniversary, honoring bestselling authors and volunteers. The queen strongly supports the charity through her passion for reading, which Simon called “very genuine.” Camilla sliced a commemorative cake and gave an impromptu speech, thanking guests for their work to address illiteracy. As patron since 2010, the queen lends invaluable support through events like this one.

Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler agreed the queen’s involvement is immensely important. He knows she’s read the popular book to her grandchildren. Her commitment suggests more than surface-level involvement and helps raise the trust’s profile.

In conclusion, the queen and other royals playing an active role at Wimbledon shows their continued support for British culture and sports. Even amid speculation over the Cambridges’ attendance, Queen Camilla, Beatrice and Mike and Zara Tindall have ensured a royal presence. The queen’s interest in weather apps and literature reflects her down-to-earth nature while advocating causes close to her heart. These public appearances demonstrate the modern royal family’s ongoing relevance.
